"Crying Cop" Story

A policeman was caught shedding tears while being berated by a foreign protester during a protest rally at the Batasan Complex.

A picture of a policeman who broke down in tears while barricading activists outside the Batasan Complex during President Benigno Aquino III’s State of the Nation Address on July 22 has become an Internet sensation.

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that the cop, who was identified as Private Joselito Sevilla from the Marikina Police Unit, had been appealing for a peaceful dialogue between the protesters and the police when a violent clash between the two groups suddenly erupted on one side of the barricade. It was during the chaos that a Dutch activist named Thomas van Beersum was photographed by ABS-CBNNews.com photographer Rem Zamora angrily berating Sevilla.

“Why are you doing this to us? Why are you hurting us?!” van Beersum was reported to have said.

Sevilla, however, stood his ground, saying that he was simply following his superiors’ command to maintain peace and order.

“I am a policeman, I’m just doing my job,” he had answered van Beersum before he started crying.

When Sevilla for the reason behind his tears, the policeman replied, “Sa gutom at pagod. Walang tulog. Walang pahinga. Dalawang araw na kami naka-deploy dito. Tapos ganito, nagkakagulo (Because of hunger and fatigue. I lack sleep and rest. We’ve been deployed here for two days, and we have to deal with the chaos.).”

Still, Sevilla did not join the other policemen in hurting the activists even if the protests were becoming increasingly violent. It was then that some protesters saw him and started comforting and embracing him. When this was noticed by other policemen, Sevilla was then moved away from the front lines.

Several people have since praised the cop for his actions, including van Beersum, who was injured during the protests.

“Unlike the other police at the protest, you did not act violently like your mates and you did not attack us. You did what you thought was right. You were confronted with the repressive character of the police and did not follow the orders of your superiors. This is a noble act,” van Beersum reportedly wrote.

RMD (Rosels' Mom Diary) Was Spotted

I am trying to find an article on Google on how to know if someone linked your blog up, however, I was not able to find one. :(

So I just try to google my blog and...whoa! RMD was spotted by Melomma on July 15th:

I feel so happy...I can't imagine that RMD will be in Spotlight in someone else's blog in four months! Thank you, Melomma! I really really really appreciate it!

DepED Class Suspension Rules

Here I am again...contemplating if I let my kids go to school today.

There's no signal warning announced by PAGASA, but they said, as of their 4am bulletin, "Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms."

The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded the public on June 14, 2013 that the decision to suspend classes when there are no storm signals falls under the various local government units (LGU).

Executive Order No. 66 s.2012 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino states “In the absence of typhoon signal warnings from PAGASA, localized cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices may be implemented by local chief executives, as chairmen of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) concerned, in coordination with PAGASA and the NDRRMC, specifically in flood-prone or high risk areas.”

However the rules on automatic suspension of classes remain. Storm Signal No 1 suspends classes in kindergarten, No 2 in elementary and high school, and No 3 in college, including graduate school and government offices.

I let Ate One come to school. And since Ate Two class starts at 7am, I'll come with her to school to make sure that the class is not suspended. Because the last time we had this strong rainfall, the school suspended their class before Ate Two's class started, however, their sundo already left the school. So they just played in school and wait until at 12noon to go home. I was worried that time and I promise myself not to let that happen again.

My 5 Baon Dilemnas Solved

What to pack for our kids' lunch is another challenge for us moms.

Simple as the task may seem, but it’s not always easy to plan the menu, especially when the odds are against you:
  • What if your child only wants fried chicken everyday?
  • What do you do when his lunch break is so short he doesn’t have time to finish his baon?
  • How do you satisfy a child with a sweet tooth and still serve a healthy snack?
However, these yummy recipes from Yummy.ph got us covered:

Chicken Caesar Salad Wraps

My dilemma: I love the idea of sending my kids ulam and rice, but they always ends up making a mess when he eats.
Solution: Prepare a mess-free, nutritious meal with this wrap.
Health note: This meal is healthy in every way – the chicken is roasted, not fried; it uses a light dressing, and one of the main ingredients is a veggie.

Chicken with Spinach and Cream Cheese Stuffing

Your dilemma: I learned new veggie dishes to make my kids' baon healthy but they always leaves out the veggies.
Solution: Wrap veggies in delicious cream cheese!
Health note: Spinach is rich in fiber, among other nutrients, which may help prevent constipation.

Fondue Bento

My dilemma: I don't want to deprive my kids of their favorite - chocolates - but often, that's all they want to bring to school!
Solution: Let them have their chocolate, but pair it with fresh fruits
Health note: Give your child his daily dose of Vitamin C naturally with the citrus fruits you pack in his lunch bag.

Hoisin Beef Tenderloin and Lychee Stir-Fry

My dilemma: My kids love to eat, but then they like everything sweet – even their ulam.
Solution: Give your favorite recipe a fruity twist.
Health note: Lychee is rich in oligonol, a polyphenol that has active anti-influenza virus actions.

Get the recipe from yummy.ph

Mini Meatball Sub

My dilemma: I’d like to introduce my kids to sandwiches, but they won’t touch them.
Solution: Turn their favorite pasta dish into a sandwich.
Health note: Bread is a good source of protein. To get more out of your bread, use the whole grain variety to aid digestion.

Reasons NOT To Share Your Kids' Pictures Online

I share pictures of my kids online. A lot. Facebook, Instagram, Tweeter, etc my kids are all over it. They’re cute as all get out! How could I resist?

However, there are quite a few parents out there with equally cute kids who feel and do the complete opposite.

I may be na├»ve, but I rather like that idea. I love to be able to look back on my children’s short lives with just a few clicks. I love sharing their photos, the funny things they say and their milestones with friends and relatives near and far.
According to BabyCenter members, here are 5 reasons NOT to share pictures of your kids online:
  1. Lack of privacy  – I understand desiring privacy, but how is a photo of my child online any different than the scores of people who see them in person on a regular basis?
  2. Once something is on the internet, it’s there forever.  – This disturbs some, but it intrigues me. Hundreds of years from now, an archaeologist may find my Instagram account and know that my child was here! They’ll use the photos to piece together what life was like in the twenty-teens. It’s like a digital cave painting!
  3. It’s dangerous. People can do bad things with the pictures. – Of course protecting children from predators should be a concern to all parents. However, predators are more likely to target children they know and who trust them, not seek to harm children they have only seen on the Internet.
  4. If someone wants to see my child, they can ask for a good time to stop by.  This may be true for some, but not for all. Not everyone lives close enough to family and friends for frequent visits.
  5. Personal preference. – This is the only one I can’t refute. I can easily accept the fact that not everyone is as into social media as I am. Different strokes for different folks, as the old saying goes.
How do you feel about pictures of your children online? Do you have any rules about photos of your kids on the Internet?

High Schooler Fakes Pregnancy

It all began with an uploaded doctor’s note tagged to some of her friends on Facebook that announced the news of her pregnancy. Like a wildfire, rumors and judgement rampantly spread about the pregnancy of Maria Miranda, senior at Forest Grove High School in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Miranda, an aspiring ultrasound technician, endured the judgment, the whispering and the stares until her project in early April when she revealed her secret and shared with her class her observations, which included notes from four of her closest friends and high school teachers who were asked to observe what others were saying about her.
Miranda is quoted, “My project taught me so much about judgment, about judging others and being judged myself.  It completely changed my school year.”
I was overwhelmed with pride for this brave 17-year-old girl. High school is hard enough, but to willingly put yourself in the face of judgment and gossiping from your peers and never give up the act—that is heroic just knowing the end result could save others from being judged and even making judgments.
Bravo, Maria, Bravo!
Have you experienced judgment and stereotyping because of your pregnancy?

Where to Wear Your Engagement and Wedding Rings

I came across with a blog entry about how to wear the wedding band and engagement ring, so the idea came  up, and I decided to write about it.

I am wearing my engagement and wedding rings on my left ring finger. This derives from an ancient Roman belief that the left hand is closer to the heart.

However in some countries, such as Germany, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the right ring finger, not the left.

My hand do not look so good in pictures! :))

My engagement ring comes first then followed by my wedding ring because my idea is that the wedding locks the engagement.

By some means of reasoning, the wedding band should go on your finger first because it sits closest to your heart. However, whether or not to wear your engagement ring, and where to wear it, is an extremely personal choice.

How about you, wives? How do you wear them?

Father Films His Baby Boy Everyday for a Year

An English photographer and video blogger, Sam Cornwell, has captured his son's growth through a montage of clips shots every single day during his baby's first year.

Watch the video below:

It is so heart-warming. I am inspired but I feel envy, too; because he found a time and way to show how he love his baby boy that will be treasured forever.

My Kids' Friends

I do not choose my kids' friends. What I mean is they have the liberty to choose their own friends; someone they can play with, can do their assignments/homeworks with, and someone they can share their sweet-nothings.

My eldest on the most right.

My eldest, Alvynne, has the most number of friends since she joined our church's choir. She even has a circle of friends wherein every Saturday afternoon, they gather together and have snack; they contribute 5 pesos to buy for their snack and just sit in front of our house and talk.

It's not that I am not concerned after-all, I am just happy to see that my kids are getting older now that they have other people to share their time with aside from me and Dad. However, one day, my eldest came home with a sad face. I asked her, "What's wrong?". Then she said, one of her friends make fun of her because of her hair..."They called me Dora, Moms". I got upset because my eldest is sad and maybe this might have an impact on her self esteem. But I made her understand that we can't please everybody, and we can't expect all of her friends will like her. I told her that she's beautiful just the way she is. Then, I suggest to talk her friends and ask why they have done that. Then, if continue, maybe it's time to let them go...

It's really sad to know that some upsets my kids, however, I want my kids to experience the real world; the happiness with friends and even the heartache. They may not understand the reason why now but I know when they reach the time to face the cruelty of this "real world", they'll be equipped with the strength and wisdom to face them all.

How about you mommies, do you choose your kids' friends?

My Life Lessons

I’ve learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I’ve learned that no matter how much I care some people just don’t care back.

I’ve learned that just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

I’ve learned that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I’ve learned that it’s not what you have in your life, but whom you have in your life that counts.

I’ve learned that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I’ve learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I’ve learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I’ve learned that sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I’ve learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I’ve learned that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I’ve learned that no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I’ve learned that it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I’ve learned that just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And, just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

I’ve learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I’ve learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt, and you will hurt in the process.

I’ve learned that you should never tell a child their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I’ve learned that heroes are people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

Controlling Grandparents

Since I am a full-time work away from home mom, my mom takes care of my kids and I really appreciate it. However, sometimes, maybe because my mom got attached too much with my kids, she always have to say something about everything I do for my kids.

One day, while we're eating our lunch, my second said, "Mom, busog na po ako". (Mom, I am full.) Even if she only had about 3 spoons of her food. Then, I replied, "Ubusin mo yang pagkain mo. Next time, 'wag kang kukuha ng hindi mo kayang ubusin." (Finish your food. Next time, don't get too much that you can't consume.) But my mom but-in and said, "Bakit pinipilit mo yung bata na ubusing yung pagkain nya kung hindi na nya kaya?" (Why you're orcing your kid to finish her food?)

I decided to keep quite, but I really wanted to say, "Mama, pwede bang 'wag mo akong sawayin sa harap ng mga anak ko?" (Mama, please don't argue with me in front of my kids?" Of course, I respect my mom and I don't want her to feel unrespected in front of my kids like what she did to me. So I continue eating my food and finish lunch without saying a word. And, maybe my second understood me, she also finished her lunch without talking.

My Resolution
After lunch, I talked to my mom in private. I explained my reason why I asked my second to finish her lunch. And fortunately, my mom understood me. She promised not to say anything against what I say to my kids, in-front of my kids. And, if she wants to say something against me, she'll talk to me first.

What happy ending right? There was a saying that there's no problem can't be solved over a cup of coffee. Though, we're not drinking coffee at the time when my mom and I have a heart-to-heart talk, I think the issue has been resolved because we talked about it, compromised, and love each other. And that's the bottom line.

#FlashbackFriday: I Miss You, Papa

I came across a blog post where she featured her dad. Then, I suddenly felt the tears that trying to come out from my eyes...

"I miss, Papa." He passed away two years ago and I am really sad everytime I remember him. I felt a bit ache every time the idea that Jaja, my youngest, wasn't able to meet him.

I also envision myself that I'll walk down the isle with him...when I get married, but it won't happen now...

Here's the last photo taken with him on his last birthday celebration:

Papa is wearing brown shit with "Dubai" on it

I know that he's at-peace wherever he is. I just want to let him know that I miss him terribly.

3 Ways To Wear Printed Pants

I came across an article from Cosmo.ph on How To Wear Printed Pants in 3 Ways. And, I am sharing their tips and tricks to all Fashionista Mom out-there.

Here's the Printed Pant:

Printed pants are ridiculously cool to wear during hot summer months—and you can even take them from the boardroom to the bar and to the beach! Sounds tricky? Not really. Check out how Cosmo.ph styled the same pair of pants for three different events:

At Work:

Going corporate doesn’t always mean boring. Keep the work look fun, yet office-appropriate by pairing printed pajamas with a cobalt tweed jacket and gilded accessories. Trust Cosmo.ph: this is the new classic.

Friday Night:

Stand out in a crowded room wearing a statement tee (it’s the new after-five essential) and dress it up with chic accessories—like a chain necklace (maybe three) and studded footwear—to keep the look effortlessly cool, yet glam.

Getaway with the Girls:

Gone for the weekend? Pair your bikini with a cropped crochet top for a relaxed summer vibe. Keep the look interesting with textured pieces like a woven pair of sandals and a basket tote. Now you’re a total beach babe!

My Kids' Learning Styles

According to Wikipedia, Learning Styles is an individual's natural or habitual pattern of acquiring and processing information in learning situations.

As a mother and your kids' first teacher, we should know our kids' learning styles to be more effective.

Alvynne, my eldest, is a Visual Learner. She takes numerous detailed notes, like to see what they are learning, and she benefits the most from illustrations and presentations that use colors. She is also attracted to written or spoken language rice in imaginary.

While, Antoinelle, my second daughter, is a Kinesthetic Learner. She is active and take frequent breaks. She remember what was done, but have difficulty recalling what was said or seen. She also rely on what she can directly experience or perform. Most of the time, she is uncomfortable in classrooms where they lack opportunities for hands-on experience.

Remember, every kid is a unique learner. And in recognizing the importance of individual learning differences, you can use effective methods that help create a learning climate which increases the potential learning for your kids regardless of their preferred way of learning.

Glee Star Cory Monteith Passed Away

The Glee star was found dead in his hotel room on July 13.

We were celebrating Jaja's birthday when I learned that my favorite Glee star passed away. My reaction is sooo unusual and my cousin-in-law blurted "Close kayo?" (Did you know each other?)

It's not that we're close or friends, it's just I cant believe that at his young age and at the peek of his career, he died.

I searched for the reason why he passed away and here's what I fount out:

Reuters.com reports that the cause of his death is still unclear, but an autopsy is set to be performed on July 15. There was no foul play suspected as evidence indicates that he was alone when he died.

Cory has struggled with substance abuse in the past, and he had undergone treatment for substance addiction last April at a rehabilitation facility. Vancouver Police Department Acting Chief Doug LePard, however, refused to discuss the possibility of the actor dying due to a drug overdose.

I can't imagine that he's suffering from addiction, but bless his soul and he may rest in peace.
